What can I use this solution for?
This solution provides a non-intrusive approach to independent living designed to support aging in place while providing caregivers with peace of mind. The app enables discreet monitoring of loved ones, delivering valuable insights on their well-being, while prioritizing privacy, dignity, and independence.
Key features include:
- Sleep Monitoring: Tracks household sleep patterns, helping you identify changes in time spent in bed or irregular sleep schedules.
- Activity Monitoring: Provides insights into daily activity levels, allowing you to recognize when movement is lower than usual.
- Custom Alerts: Notifies you of important activity—or lack thereof. Set up alerts for morning wakeups, extended periods of inactivity, or unexpected motion during scheduled appointments and other outings.
The WiFi Motion plugs included in your kit use Wi-Fi Sensing technology to detect movement. This works by analyzing changes in Wi-Fi signal patterns when someone moves near one of the plugs.
How is the motion coverage area determined?
Motion coverage is shaped by the Wi-Fi signals that travel between your WiFi Motion plugs. To envision your coverage area, imagine an invisible bubble between each plug. These bubbles define the areas of the home where motion will be detected.
Activity refers to any detected motion in the house. It is reported in hourly segments, allowing you to see when and how much activity occurred throughout the day.
- Sleep detection monitors extended periods of inactivity at night. Your total time in bed is measured from the last detected motion at night to the first motion detected the next morning.
- The reported time in bed may include periods of wakefulness.
- It does not distinguish between multiple individuals in the home.
- Motion from tossing and turning may register as low activity during the night.
- The Sleep feature tracks nighttime inactivity to determine sleep patterns.
- Bedtime and Wake Time show when motion in the home stopped and resumed.
- Setup requires inputting usual sleep hours to improve accuracy.
- Last Night View shows bedtime, wake time, and total sleep duration from the previous night.
- Week View provides a 7-day sleep overview to help identify trends.
What is the Sleep Interruptions Beta Feature?
The Sleep Interruptions feature tracks the number of nighttime movements to detect disturbances.
Note: This feature is currently in beta for feedback and improvements.
To enable, go to Settings > Account Information > ‘Enable Beta Features’ and toggle it on.
- The Activity feature tracks daily movement in the home.
- Day view: Displays hourly motion levels, including the first and last detected activity of the day. The Day View also indicates the time when the day’s first activity was detected and when motion was most recently detected in the home. Please note that when viewing the Day view, motion caused by someone tossing and turning in bed may result in low activity being recorded during the night.
- Week View: Shows a 7-day summary of activity trends.
What are Activity and Sleep Goals?
- Setting target goals for sleep and activity allows you to easily track and identify changes in the household’s daily routines.
- When setting your sleep and activity goals, try to match the household’s usual patterns. This is not meant to be a static metric, and it can be adjusted over time to better suit the household.
- Example: If bedtime is typically 10:00pm – 6:30am, the sleep goal should be set for 8 hours and 30 minutes.
Custom Alerts notify you when specific activity patterns occur—or don’t occur
- Rise and Shine Alert: Confirms morning movement and alerts you if no motion is detected
- Inactivity Alert: Notifies you if unexpected inactivity occurs (best used when the home is expected to be occupied).
- Outings Alert: Ensures key appointments or events are attended by detecting movement during scheduled times.
What is the difference between a custom schedule and a preset schedule?
- Preset Schedule: Uses the same alert times every day.
- Custom Schedule: Allows different alert times for different days.
- Example: Set earlier wake times on weekdays and later wake times on weekends.
- Proper plug placement impacts motion detection accuracy.
- The motion sensing coverage area can be envisioned by imagining an invisible bubble between each plug.
General placement considerations:
- Avoid placing plugs behind large metallic objects.
- Do not stack multiple plugs into each other, either by plugging them into each other or putting them into the same outlet.
- For dwellings that have shared walls (apartments, condos, townhomes, etc.), avoid placing plugs along these walls to prevent interference from neighboring units.
- Space plugs out rather than clustering them
Check coverage by viewing Live Motion from the Summary tab in the app while walking around and adjusting placement if needed.
My system has gone offline. What should I do?
Possible reasons why the system has gone offline:
- Power outage or Wi-Fi disruption: the system will restore once power or Wi-Fi returns.
- Only one plug is online: At least two plugs must be plugged in and online for motion to be detected. Check Settings > Room Coverage for plug status.
If the issue persists, contact Support via Settings > Support > Contact Us.
How do I check the status of my plugs?
Go to Settings > Room Coverage in the app.
Why is one of my plugs offline?
- It may have lost power or been unplugged.
- If plugged in but offline, unplug it for 30 seconds, then reconnect.
- The app may take a few minutes to update the status.
If the plug remains offline, you can contact Support via Settings > Support > Contact Us.
How do I move a plug to a new room after initial set up?
- Unplug the desired plug and move it to a new outlet in a different area of the home.
- If you’ve relocated the plug to a new room, update its location in the app under Settings > Room Coverage. Tap on the room where the plug was previously located, change the room name to the plug’s new location, and tap ‘Save.’
How can I optimize my system for more accurate sleep detection?
Ensure that there’s a plug located near the primary bedroom. The size of the primary bedroom and availability of outlets should determine where you place the plug. If the primary bedroom is small or if available outlets are obstructed by furniture, we recommend adding the plug to an outlet outside the bedroom but near its entrance, if possible.
